TN’s nodal skill agency working on jobs portal

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu’s apex skilling body is working on bringing out a separate job portal, which will be soon launched by TN CM MK Stalin, a senior official said on Thursday.

“There is a need for a job platform with a good search optimisation feature and we are working on bringing this out soon, and the same will soon be announced by our chief minister MK Stalin,” J Innocent Divya, managing director of the Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation, told TOI on the sidelines of CII’s HRD (Human Resource Development) conference in Chennai.

The new and improved tool will benefit both employers and candidates, she added. She also said the labour participation rate for blue collar jobs in TN was low and a cause for worry and is being looked at by the nodal skilling agency. “We are seriously looking at why there are not many takers for semi-skilled or low skilled blue collar jobs and want to get to the root of this issue,” she added.

TNSDC, the state subsidiary of the central National Skill Development Corporation, is also working on conducting hackathons for around 50,000 students in non-core computer streams, in partnership with IBM. We are partnering with top IT companies like TCS, HCL Tech and companies to impart skills to students in new and emerging technologies through the Naan Mudhalvan platform of CM, Divya added.

Murugavel J, chairman, CII Chennai Zone, and founder of, said that in today’s climate of digital transformation, companies are finding it easy to get business but getting the right talent to fulfill orders is becoming a challenge. “There used to be a time when salary hikes trended in the range of 20-30%, but demand for hikes is now at around 80%” he said.
